Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school, etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

We are a father-daughter author team. I grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Sarah grew up mostly in Texas where we now live. We are very close. Sarah was homeschooled and is now 22 and preparing to go to school for animal behavior and psychology. We have always been close, more like best friends. We love the outdoors. We are always camping, hiking, and fishing.

What inspired you to author this book?

We were actually playing a game called Monster Hunter: Rise. One of the monsters actually resembled a small dragon and Sarah came up with the idea for the book. She wrote Chapter 1 and showed it to me. I loved it so I gave her some suggestions on where she could take the story. She liked my suggestions so much she told me I had to be her co-author. We both love fantasy and we were inspired by The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini and the Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

Honestly, we had someone on Fiverr make that for us. We described our main character Princess Jaylen and Aurelia the dragon and we wanted the cover to reflect how close they were. We envisioned the crown from a scene in our book where Jaylen receives that crown as a birthday present.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

For me my greatest influence as a writer is Anne McCaffrey with a little Christopher Paolini mixed in. My greatest influence personally was my dad whom I unfortunately lost in 2012. He was always telling me I should be a writer with my imagination. Sarah is always saying I am her greatest inspiration in her life which is sweet. As far as a writer Christopher Paolini is her greatest influence hands down.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

The biggest struggle we faced was keeping the book consistent with the writing of two people. We started out alternating writing chapters, then quickly realized there was a better way. Sarah is a story-driven writer. She isn't great at world-building or character-building, though. I am great with descriptions but sometimes get too descriptive and can't really advance the story. So, we decided that Sarah would write the base of the chapter, adding all the dialogue and moving the story forward, and I would go back through and add the descriptions and world-building.

Tell your readers about your book.

Firebound Harmony is going to be a 3-book series. Book one, Princess and Dragon Unite, tells the story of Jaylen, Princess of Eldoria, and how she finds an injured dragon. Stories of dragons are all over the land, saying they are evil creatures who kill and destroy. No one has really seen a dragon in recent memory. Despite these stories, Jaylen chooses to help Aurelia and connects with her. Realizing that the stories must be false, Jaylen defies her father and runs away with Aurelia to protect her. Their one goal is to prove to everyone that dragons are not evil and bring dragons and humans back together in harmony.

Who is your target audience, and why?

We mainly wrote this book for Young Adults. However, adults love it too. We wanted a story that almost anyone could read.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My greatest success was in raising my kids. I have made mistakes, and we have not always had an easy life. But seeing how Sarah turned out and how my son Hunter is becoming an incredible man, I know that is my greatest success. As for Sarah, she said her greatest success is writing this book. She is so proud of herself for finishing it and becoming an author.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

Our Story. We pulled from our experiences reading other authors and then crafted a unique world and story. This is what every author does, but we also have the unique gift of melding two different writing styles to make something better than either of us could write alone.
