The book delves deep into the systemic oppression of Black and Brown people in America, highlighting how the prison system perpetuates racial injustice and inequality. Through vivid descriptions of daily life behind bars, including the overcrowded conditions, lack of basic human rights, and psychological toll of incarceration, the author exposes the dehumanizing effects of the system. The book further explains how prison has become a place where many young people lose their hope, mental stability, and the potential for a second chance at life. In the end, Young and Incarcerated is not only a critique of the prison industrial complex but a call to action for young readers to avoid the path that leads to incarceration. Young and Incarcerated encourages self-reflection, the reevaluation of false street values, and the creation of new game plans for success and survival outside the prison system.
Top reviews from the United States
- I've chosen this rating because the author was speaking from the heart! He realized by being locked up for so long and had time to think that what he has done was not worth it! Now he's serving time for making bad decisions. I also would recommend my son to read this book and hopefully it would wake him up!!
