Dear Readers:

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Must-Read for Every Parent in the Digital Age!

As a firm believer in financial literacy and the importance of preparing our children for the future, I cannot praise Smart Money Kids: A Parent’s Guide to Digital Finance Education by Björn Nübel enough! This book is a game-changer for parents who want to equip their children with the knowledge and skills to navigate today’s cashless world confidently.

In a time when kids are exposed to digital transactions, in-game purchases, and online spending before they even understand the value of money, this book provides a much-needed roadmap. Nübel breaks down complex financial concepts into easy-to-follow lessons, offering age-specific guidance that grows with your child. From teaching young kids about saving to helping teenagers understand credit and investments, this book covers it all!

What stood out to me most was the section on psychological tricks used by advertisers and game developers—a true eye-opener for any parent. Understanding these tactics is the first step in empowering kids to make smart financial decisions rather than falling into the spending traps so prevalent in today’s digital world.

Beyond just theory, Smart Money Kids gives practical tools, real-world examples, and actionable steps to instill lifelong financial responsibility. The approach to allowances, budgeting, and financial habits is refreshingly realistic and easy to implement.

🔹 Why do I give this book a five-star rating?
Because it’s not just a book—it’s a guide to securing your child’s financial future. Schools don’t teach financial literacy, but as parents, we have the power to do so, and this book is the perfect resource to help!

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the person you.

I grew up in Germany and kicked off my career with a certified banking apprenticeship, learning the ins and outs of finance from the ground up. But I quickly realized that if I really wanted to understand the full picture—including the complex stuff—I needed to dive deeper. So, I studied Banking Supervision, expanding my expertise in banking, financial regulations, and risk management. My journey led me to pursue an MBA in Business Administration, studying in Switzerland and Chile, giving me a global perspective on finance and education. Today, I live in Switzerland with my wife and daughter, balancing my roles as a certified banker, financial expert, author, and text coach. I’ve always believed that financial literacy is essential for every generation, but especially for kids growing up in a cashless, digital-first world. As a father, I saw firsthand how money has changed—cash is disappearing, digital payments are everywhere, and kids are spending before they even understand money. With financial traps hidden in games, apps, and social media, I knew parents needed a practical guide to help their children navigate this new financial reality. That’s why I wrote Smart Money Kids. Beyond writing, I run textcoa.ch, where I help others communicate their ideas effectively through professional text coaching. I also share financial literacy insights on my blog, nuebel.blog, offering parents practical tools to raise money-smart kids in an era where financial education has never been more important.

What inspired you to author this book?

My inspiration for Smart Money Kids came from two places: my daughter and countless conversations on the playground. Parents kept asking me, "Hey, you work in banking, right? How should I invest my money?" or "I wish I knew more about this!" These conversations made me realize how many people—especially those without a financial background—struggle to teach their kids about money. At the same time, I saw that most financial education is either too complicated or simply doesn’t exist in schools. I wrote this book because I believe financial literacy shouldn’t be a privilege. Everyone, regardless of their background, deserves the knowledge to make smart money decisions—and that learning should start early. Smart Money Kids is my way of giving parents the tools they need to raise financially confident kids, even if they never had that education themselves.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

I wanted the cover of Smart Money Kids to instantly connect with my target audience—parents who want to teach their kids smart money habits. It was important to me that the cover visually reflects real families navigating today’s digital financial world. I didn’t want a generic finance book look—I wanted something that felt relatable, engaging, and approachable. That’s why I chose a design that features parents and children, making it clear that this book is practical, family-focused, and designed to help everyday people give their kids a financial head start.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

Personally, my daughter has been my biggest influence. Watching her grow up in a world where money is mostly digital made me realize how little guidance there is for kids when it comes to financial literacy. That’s what pushed me to start conversations, do research, and eventually write Smart Money Kids—to help parents teach their children what schools often don’t. As a writer, my biggest influence has been the countless parents I’ve talked to over the years—on playgrounds, at work, and in everyday life. So many people told me, “You work in banking—how should I invest?” or “I wish I had learned this earlier.” These conversations made me realize that finance needs to be explained in a simple, relatable, and practical way—without jargon or complexity. That’s exactly what I set out to do with this book.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

One of the biggest challenges in writing Smart Money Kids was translating complex financial concepts into something that actually makes sense for parents and kids. Let’s be honest—most finance books are either too boring, too complicated, or both. I didn’t want this book to feel like a dry economics lecture. Another struggle? My daughter. Not because she wasn’t supportive—quite the opposite! But every time I tried to write, she’d suddenly need me right that second—whether it was for homework, snacks, or an urgent discussion about a new game she wanted to buy (with my money, of course!). It was the perfect reminder of why I was writing this book in the first place: Kids are already making financial decisions every day—often without even realizing it. And of course, there were all the parents on the playground and at work constantly saying, “Hey, you work in banking—how should I invest my money?” That was when I knew: If finance was still a mystery for so many adults, how were kids supposed to figure it out? So, I powered through, fueled by countless cups of coffee, endless rewrites, and the belief that financial literacy shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be something every child learns from day one.

Who is your target audience, and why?

My target audience is parents, caregivers, and educators who want to teach kids smart money habits but feel unsure where to start—especially in today’s digital-first world. Kids are spending money before they truly understand it—through in-game purchases, online shopping, and digital wallets. Yet, most schools don’t teach financial literacy, leaving parents to fill the gap. Many adults also admit they never learned proper money management themselves, making it even harder to guide their children. Smart Money Kids is for parents who want practical, no-nonsense strategies to help their kids grow up financially confident—without overwhelming finance jargon or dry theory. Whether you’re raising a preschooler just learning about coins or a teenager navigating online spending, this book gives you age-appropriate tools to make financial education easy, engaging, and relevant.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My greatest success in life isn’t a job title or a degree—it’s helping people understand money in a way that actually makes a difference. Whether it’s through my work in banking, my writing, or just conversations with friends and parents on the playground, I love making finance accessible, practical, and even a little fun. On a personal level, my biggest success is being a father. Watching my daughter grow up in a world where money is becoming invisible made me realize how important it is to teach kids financial literacy early. Writing Smart Money Kids felt like a way to not only help my child but also give other parents the tools I wish I had when I started.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

What sets me apart is my 25+ years in banking, my unbiased, real-world approach, and the fact that everything in Smart Money Kids has been tested in real life—with my own daughter. Unlike many finance books that push products or outdated advice, I focus on practical, digital-first money skills kids actually need. I also worked with my cousin, an expert in at-risk student education, to make sure the lessons are engaging, effective, and easy for parents to apply.
