Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I was born and raised in Manchester, United Kingdom. I still reside here now. I went to an all-boys school in Manchester and continued my journey through education, and after completing my science degree, I decided to become a teacher. I have been teaching for 17 years now.

What inspired you to author this book?

I was inspired by my mother’s cooking growing up. She is a phenomenal home cook and tirelessly looked after her five children while her dad was at work. Mum is a natural when it comes to home-cooked South Asian food, and it is a memory that I never want to lose. It is a reminder of my safe space growing up. I wanted to honour her by putting her recipes into a book as never to be forgotten.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

The vibrant colours are inspired by the vibrancy of the dishes in the book itself. South Asian cooking is about dishes that are both delicious and vibrant!

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

The biggest influence in writing the cookbook has been my mum; she is the very reason that I wanted her legacy to continue.

What were the struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

Mainly, I found it was finding the time to get the exact measurements for the recipes as my mum is so used to just throwing in the ingredients from experience! I tried to explain to Mum that people who follow the recipe would need to know exactly how much time and effort it took to get to that stage. Then there was the writing of the book. It was a long process of trying to get a book exactly how I wanted it and hiding the fact that I was writing it from my mum! She was ever so surprised when she finally found out. She was humbled by it all.
