Rapper / Singer.
Describe your style.
I create a variety of Hip-Hop / R&B music
that ranges from pop-tinged funk to hard trap music. I create whatever I am
inspired to create.
Who or what has been
the greatest influence on your style?
A lot of my Hip-Hop influence derives from
lyrical artists such as Kanye and J Cole. My lyrics are my life story and I
want that story to be told. However, I listen to every genre of music. I feel
each genre sparks inspiration for my music writing.
How did you get
started in your career?
I sort of fell into my career. I've always had
a love for music but never thought that I would be doing it for a living.
After showcasing my talent of freestyle rapping at a college party; I got asked
if I wanted to make a song with a producer. I didn't care to be a rapper but thought
it might be something fun and creative to do. Next thing you know I'm getting
asked to do shows with Ying Yang Twins and Lil Dicky. I found a love for
performing and creatively expressing my talent.
What struggles or
barriers did you face or are you facing to promote yourself and your work?
The hardest struggle with promotion is that
the product I'm trying to sell is me. How do you tell everyone about your
product, without the appearance of boasting and arrogance, since the product is
literally yourself? Not to mention, everyone is always shoving new music in
your face in 2022. Should I spam everyone I know and lose that humble
relationship? Or does it better my career somehow?
What life lessons have
you learned and how have they influenced your style?
The most impactful life lesson I have learned is fighting the urge to fail. I've been pursuing this career for 7 years and
only recently started seeing success in my music. You see way too many stories
of musicians who release one song and overnight become a success. It builds an
unrealistic story in every artist’s head, that they only need to try hard for
one song, and then they will be successful. I've seen so many amazing artists
give up, because they didn't, "Blow Up" when they thought they were
going to. Working on my mental strength and bettering myself has helped
influence my music because I write music as an extension of my life. Sometimes
you don't realize how deep the hole is you have dug yourself until you climb
out of it. I'm always trying to better myself.
