DR. MEL'S MESSAGE - From my novels to my other projects, no telling what you will read. This is the only place you will get to read about how I developed a screenplay into a novel and what is the driving force. I will talk about many things from films to books to acting to producing. It really will depend on where my mind takes me. I hope you will join me on this journey.
Hold on for a read of a lifetime. That's right, today's BOOK OF THE DAY, "Kilmer's Ghost: Astar's Blade" by Joe Lyon is the perfect read for the fall season. It's been a long while since I came across such a well-written and thoroughly developed plot and characters who I can engage. After reading, I instantly new why the book received so many five-star reviews. If you like fantasy novels, you DON'T want to miss this one. Oh, a word of caution, this book also has a part one to it; however, they can be considered as stand-alone. If I were you, I would purchase both books, and start your journey into this captivating and mind-blowing novel. Thank you, Joe, for such an incredible book. Enjoy!
Ever since he was a young boy, a ghost had been appearing to Kilmer in an unlikely other-worldly friendship. Making Kilmer the perfect choice to go into the Sanguine searching for the King’s missing archer. Guided by his ghost and bent on revenge, he is doomed to bear witness to the cataclysm around him. Helpless to prevent the birth of a brand new evil, his life comes down to whether or not he can be saved by Kilmer’s Ghost.
I accidentally read this without knowing it was the second book in a series. For the most part, it works as a stand alone, though I'm sure I would've gotten more out of it had I read the first book. I enjoyed Kilmer's Ghost so much that I definitely will go back and read The Provenance, and might even reread Kilmer's Ghost after. The world-building here is fantastic, but so many fantasy books get that aspect right; the thing I enjoyed most about Kilmer's ghost were the characters. They're fully fleshed out and always act according to their character, even when that isn't always the right decision, objectively. Also, I got surprisingly emotional during my reading--just shows how well the characterization is done. Heavily recommended!
Fans of fantasy will appreciate this well-written storyline and book that easily stands alone in the series. The author is a gifted writer whose imagination knows no boundaries, and as the reader, I thoroughly enjoyed his world. I look forward to reading more of his work!
Kilmer's Ghost is an emotional roller coaster ride, just when you think things could not possibly get worse, it does. It gets much worse -- but all for a reasons clearly understood, leading to a satisfying resolution.
