The Self-Healer's Handbook: A Practical Guide to Awakening Your Self-Healing Power

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I grew up in a small suburban town in Auckland. My parents were very alternative and non-traditional compared to most in the 80's. We moved around a lot and by the time I turned 17 I had lived in multiple towns across the North Island of New Zealand. I was home schooled for most of my school aged years and my unconventional, nonconformist upbringing instilled in me a sense of curiosity and a deep connection to Mother Earth and everything in between that connects us as One.

What inspired you to author this book?

In 2002 my daughter, who was four years old at the time, was diagnosed with Systemic Rheumatoid arthritis. I will never forget the moment when the doctors told me that she would have this condition for life and need long term medication. I didn't believe what they said. Some might say I was in denial, or perhaps it was a mother's instinct. I just knew I could heal her naturally, without relying on pharmaceuticals, which didn't address the root cause, because the doctors had no idea of the root cause.

So, from that moment onwards, I studied Reiki, and naturopathy and I read everything I could on how to heal Rheumatoid Arthritis naturally.

Within one year of giving my daughter a plant-based diet, certain supplements, and Reiki healing treatments she went into complete remission, much to the surprise of the doctors who were treating her!

I was also suffering with a wide range of chronic health conditions and symptoms at the time including anxiety, and panic attacks, and then later I went on to develop mystery neurological symptoms, chronic attacks of vertigo that left me jobless and bed ridden and painful Endometriosis.

That’s when my mother, who looked after me for a time, gave me a book called Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal. I was so desperate to feel better, I read the entire book in a few days, and I immediately began implementing the information into my lifestyle alongside my own knowledge of healing and natural health and I managed to heal myself!

Struggling with chronic illness and mystery symptoms can feel like a long and lonely road, especially when there is so much conflicting health advice out there! It's hard to know what to do! Unfortunately, there are a lot of trendy traps and health misinformation out there that can end up making someone who is suffering from a chronic health condition worse, so I knew I had to write this book and get the right information out there because chronic and mystery illness is a worldwide epidemic!

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

I was very drawn to the colour pink, it's soothing and it represents self-love and healing. I worked with a very talented designer based in the UK who came up with the beautiful symbology. The moon phases represent the different cycles and transformations we go through in life, and the white lotus represents purity of mind, knowledge, faith, self-regeneration, and rebirth all of which are needed when it comes to healing!

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

My daughter has been the most significant influence on me personally. Becoming a single mum at only 17 was a soul shaping experience. She led me towards my soul's purpose and without her, my life would look very different!

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

I spent five long years writing this book! It was a long and arduous task compiling all the information and documenting everything that I had learned over a 19-year period in between all of life’s ups and downs. I think I moved house and country a handful of times and I survived a global pandemic! However, I am thrilled at how it has all come together at the most perfect time!

Tell your readers about your book.

My book is divided into three sections: Mental and Emotional Wellness, Physical Wellness, and Spiritual and Energetic Wellness. It’s a fluff free go-to-guide that people can turn to whenever they want, to improve their health and wellbeing. It’s jammed packed full of helpful information and easy, achievable steps which will steer you in the right direction towards recovery from chronic illness and disease. Inside, I share everything I did to heal over 70 of my own symptoms and conditions and my daughters auto immune disease completely naturally. There is a whole chapter with delicious plant-based recipes, a complete beginners guide to yoga and various healing practices and techniques that actually work.

Who is your target audience, and why?

My book is for anyone who is wanting to overcome a chronic health condition, increase mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, and live a happier more fulfilling life. Women are up against so much more in this world because our immune system redirects to our reproductive system during ovulation, menstruation and childbirth which gives the underlying root causes of most chronic health conditions, such as Epstein-Barr Virus, an opportunity to thrive. I'm not saying men don't struggle with their health, but woman seem to be up against a lot more due to natural hormonal shifts and life stages.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My greatest success was having a natural, drug-free home birth, raising my daughter as a single mum, and healing our chronic health conditions!

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

I lived with chronic illness for so many years, therefore I have walked the healing path and I have a strong sense of empathy and compassion towards others who are struggling in the dark with no answers as to why they are chronically ill or what they can do to feel better. I may not hold a PhD or a Degree of any kind, but this real-world experience, I believe, sets me apart from most authors in the health and wellness genre.
