Tell
your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now,
where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.
My name is Gabe
Oliver. I was born in New Jersey but grew up in Colorado. I started writing
poems and lyrics to songs when I was younger. Once I left high school, I
pursued music and recorded many songs and a few albums that are all available
on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. I moved to Hawaii and lived there for a couple of
years. I met my wife in Hawaii and then decided to quit my job and travel with
her to Australia. We drove all of Australia living in the back of a car. We
then flew back to the USA and bought a car. We lived in the back of that car
and traveled from the USA to Panama by car. We shipped our car from Panama to
Colombia by boat. Then we drove to Argentina. I am currently in Argentina
waiting for my wife's visa to process so we can go back to the USA. She is
Argentinian. I wrote my debut novel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I edited it and
self-published it on Amazon.
What
inspired you to author this book?
The book is a fiction
novel inspired by my personal experiences in life. I would share my story with
people verbally along my travels and they would always tell me that I should
make a movie or write a book. I do not have the budget to make a movie, so I
wrote a book instead.
Where
did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?
I took the book cover photo myself. The book is called "Little Toy Car." The photo is inspired by the
beginning scene in the first chapter of the novel. I took the photo so that it displays a reflection on the hardwood floor. That is symbolic of the reflection scene throughout the book. Gene is the main character.
Who
has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?
I have been known to be
a chameleon. There are some upsides to that and downsides. One of the upsides
is that I am able to be influenced and learn from the best parts of people that
I meet. Each and every person that I have met in my life has shaped me as a
person and influenced my writing.
What
were the struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?
The biggest struggle
to overcome was writing the book authentically with true emotions. Since the book
was inspired by my personal experiences in life, some of the scenes were
difficult to complete.
Tell
your readers about your book.
Little Toy Car is a psychological coming-of-age novel inspired by my personal life experiences. The book follows Gene's life as he reflects on the world around him. The trial and trauma he endures construct his personality and shape his reality. Gene is constantly searching for meaning in his life and questioning if he is worthy of love.
Who
is your target audience, and why?
People searching for
the meaning of life. Gene can relate. People who may have struggled through a lot, whether physically or mentally. Psychologists are interested in observing the
mental growth of a person from adolescence to adulthood and the experiences that
shape their behavior over time. People are interested in the effects religious
organizations can have on the human mind. My target audience? Anyone, really. I
wrote the book to be thought-provoking and open the door to healthy
discussions.
What
do you consider your greatest success in life?
My greatest success in
life... I'm not sure. I have written and recorded a lot of music. I have done
stand-up comedy. I have filmed and made videos. I have taken artistic photos. I
have written stories. I have traveled the world. I have fallen in love.
My greatest success in life? I'm not sure if I'll ever know the true answer to
that.
What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
I believe my life experience and personality probably set me apart from other authors. I feel I have done and experienced so much in my life. Everyone I meet tells me they love my energy, so maybe that's what sets me apart.
