Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, with roots in Alabama and Tennessee. I've lived all over the U.S., including Atlanta, GA; Washington, D.C.; Anaheim, CA; Raleigh, NC; and a few other places. My family (wife and daughter) and I currently reside in Orange County, CA.

I have a background in health and wellness. I am certified in fitness, nutrition, and wellness. I am also a USA Boxing coach. I work with young amateur boxers in Southern California. I've spent the past two decades helping others improve their quality of life.

I  was not always a person who celebrated and sought after the right things. Most people in my current world show complete shock when I share my story of surviving the streets of Cleveland (Ohio) and being involved with organized crime, followed by 10 years in federal prison. They can’t grasp that the businessman and coach they’ve seen improve the lives of hundreds was once considered a “dangerous criminal.” Later, most people wanted to know how I performed the transformation and when I would share my story with the world. After years of doubt, I finally decided to write a series of books for others to use in their own quest to change. The first of two books to be released on January 26, 2023, is “The 9 Levels of True Transformation: How to Evolve From Feeling Lost to Being Found.” The easy-read project (only 95 pages) dives into nine key areas that were found to be important in his reform. I tested the system over two decades of work in wellness that has included fellow convicts, school districts, youth development programs, and other non-profit organizations. What inspired you to author this book?

I'm "paying it forward." I experienced rock bottom in my life and used the opportunity to transform myself with the help of others. Change is a personal responsibility; however, it truly takes a village of support to make it permanent. I wouldn’t have been able to complete my positive transformation if not for the books I read, the programs I utilized, and the people in my corner. I’m here to pay it forward.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

I wanted something simple and raw that translated the message being delivered: I transformed from the dark into the light, and you can too, with the system I used.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

Wow, that would take a lot of time and space because I've been an avid reader since I was a kid; however, I can immediately point to great minds like Malcolm X, John Henrik Clarke, Anthony Browder, Robert Kiyosaki, and Fritjof Capra. I love all books, but I've always been attracted to biographies, philosophy, history, and sci-fi projects.

What were the struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

Funny enough, I originally started this book back in 2012! It literally sat in my drive untouched for the past 10 years. After constantly hearing that I should write a book about my life and how I drastically changed it, I finally used the recent opportunity to finish it. It sat all of this time due to time spent out in the community and working on various projects.

Tell your readers about your book.

This book allows me to share how I evolved from feeling lost to being found at my lowest point from 2000 to 2010. I served over a decade in prison for organizing unarmed bank robberies. The 9 Levels of True Transformation shares time-tested guidelines for rising above the darkness you may feel today. It provides the "tribal support" many people feel they no longer have in this society.

Who is your target audience, and why?

My target audience is those who are experiencing feelings of confusion with life. The people who are lost and lonely. Whether they are dealing with legal issues, rehab, or a life-changing experience (like job loss), this book was written to show them a light at the end of this current tunnel that they're in.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My greatest success so far has been overcoming statistics that have claimed young men and women from places like the one I grew up in. I grew up as an African-American male during the height of America's Crack Epidemic. With the loss of great-paying jobs in places like Cleveland, drugs, gangs, and incarceration became the norm for most urban areas. Statistics said that I would have a greater chance of being killed or killing someone by age 18. Statistics said that becoming a drug addict is more likely than not. Statistics have been central in my upbringing, and even though I did experience the statistic of going to prison, I have persevered to become a family man, a legitimate businessman, and an overall responsible man.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

The combination of my experience in the streets and prison balanced with going to college, becoming a business leader and working professionally in the wellness industry, and having real-world experience assisting hundreds of people achieve goals in bettering their lives. Not many men from my diverse background can articulate that experience with the world in the way my gifts allow me to.

Tell me about your Empowerment Tour.

This mission is titled “The Empowerment Tour.” We are increasing our investment in people, especially our at-risk youth. Change is a personal responsibility; however, it truly takes a village of support to make it permanent. I wouldn’t have been able to complete my positive transformation if not for the books I read, the programs I utilized, and the people in my corner. I’m here to pay it forward. The Empowerment Tour will hit some of the usual places. Still, its primary focus will be to connect with individuals in prisons, group homes, rehabilitation centers, and halfway houses to share my new book, The 9 Levels of True Transformation: How to Evolve from Feeling Lost to Being Found. I plan to give away books and coaching to individuals seeking to improve their lives, as I did over 15 years ago.
