Dear Readers:
"Commitments" by A.R. Ayres is a captivating tale that takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through the lives of its compelling characters. Set against the backdrop of Harvard Law School, this novel weaves together a tapestry of love, ambition, and the consequences of choices made in the pursuit of desires.
The story introduces us to Mya Williams, a brilliant African American law student hailing from the humble origins of West Virginia. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Franklin Willingham III, a wealthy, womanizing law student from New York. Their love story gives birth to Tessa, a child who grapples with her dual identity as an African American in a world that perceives her as a white woman of privilege. Tragedy strikes when the love of Tessa's life is brutally murdered, leading her on a dark and vengeful path. Tessa's transformation into a cold-blooded killer is nothing short of riveting, and her journey takes an unexpected twist as she becomes entangled with a covert government organization.
The narrative unfolds in two gripping parts. The first delves into Mya and Franklin's heart-wrenching pursuit of love, while the second immerses readers in Tessa's world of revenge, seduction, secrets, and lies. Mya Williams, a beautiful, brilliant, African American Harvard law student from West Virginia, is pursued by a handsome, womanizing, white, wealthy law student from New York. In spite of Mya’s best efforts to keep their relationship on a strictly friendship basis and all the warnings that Franklin Willingham III was out of her league, she fell deeply in love with him, and he was with her.
The result of their relationship was a love child named Tessa, who wrestled with being African American but looking and living as a white woman of privilege for most of her life. Tessa's life is forever changed after the murder of the love of her life. Her quest for revenge and belief she would never love again turned her into a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, who would stop at nothing to make the murderers pay including being recruited into a secret government organization.
When escaped convicted murderer, Jackson Knight, invaded Tessa's home, all he wanted was…
money, clothes, and a get-away-car. But he got more than he bargained for, including a new identity and an unexpected journey of a lifetime.
This fast-paced novel is told in two parts. Part one tells of Mya and Frankin’s heart-breaking journey to find love and in part two, Tessa leads us down a path of revenge, seduction, secrets and lies. Will Tessa's cold heart find love again? This novel reminds us people are not always as they seem but change and redemption is possible.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I grew up in Inkster, Michigan, a suburb outside Detroit, Michigan, and am from a family of twelve siblings: nine girls and three boys. I am the youngest of the girls. I attended Wilberforce University and earned my BS degree in Business Management, and I am a retired paralegal. I have been married 31 years and I had two sons, one of whom transitioned on February 21, 2021. You can read about my journey with him and his struggle with schizophrenia in
Chicken Soup for the Soul Though Times Won't Last but Tough People Will. I also co-wrote a children's book with my youngest and remaining son, The Rainbow Zebra, an anti-bullying book. The title of that book was inspired by my son, who suffers from attention deficit disorder (ADD), the inattentive type; he also stuttered and was bullied in school. The book was written in an effort to combat bullying, starting at an early age.
I also write poetry, which I have yet to publish as most of it is very personal, and I use it as therapy.
My latest published work, Commitments, was inspired by what I would like to see more of, which is a romance novel that does not shy away from sex, has strong female main characters, suspense, and drama, and delivers some social messages in a non-preachy manner.
I am presently working on a novella that is a cautionary tale to young women that is a true account of my college days of almost getting sexually assaulted numerous times. Which will be released in 2024.
