Editorial Reviews
Review
Although
most people are aware of the story of David and Goliath, the giant,
"David: God's Chosen Crucible" by Joseph Ganci is a brilliant
retelling of all the stories about the Shepard boy who would one day become a
King of Israel. Reading with all the informational value of a history textbook
is deftly combined with the entertainment of an action/adventure novel.

Joseph delivers a reasonable, believable story that fills in the gaps smoothly
and neatly packs various events into an intense, multiple-viewpoint narrative.
The book also contains several lessons and messages that will help believers
grow in faith and knowledge about God's ways.

descriptions of the Bible into something closer to a fantasy novel:

FROM THE AUTHOR
Do you know why old men study the scriptures? Because they are cramming for final exams.
I read the scriptures twice, almost every day. In the morning, I pray, read the
scriptures, and then pray again. Mostly, I don't put in a shopping list and ask
to know His will and the power to carry that out. Instead, it prepares my mind
for deeper insights and understandings. I believe that the glory of God is
intelligence. Isaiah refers to revelation as line upon line and precept upon
precept; here, a little, there, a little.
People had been saying for years that you need to write a book. But not until
my 9-year-old granddaughter Claire said, "Papa, you need to write a
book." It seems that soon after, I came across Gideon in the Bible. I had
read his story five times before, but some scriptures appeared to jump off the
page for some reason. One was Gideon sending a dispatch to Ephraim, telling
them to take them to the waters. Curious as all water leads down to the sea.
(Moby Dick). But after much investigation, it turns out to be the shallow
waters or the only fording place of the Jordan, known as the Beth-barah. So
Gideon was going to drive the Midianite kings south into Ephraim's waiting
arms, like hounds to the hunter, intriguing.
The other scripture that captivated me was after Gideon, and his 300 starving
men conquered 15000 in a secure location. He Captures the kings and uses them
initially as a trophy proclaiming his victory. Then, after parading them
around, he didn't need them anymore and spoke, "I would have left you
alive, but you kill the sons of my mother, even my brethren at Tabor?" It
was a blood feud, and I was hooked and off to the races. that one-word Tabor
found in Judges 4-5 gave me my first seven chapters.
Gideon is in three books, Judges 6-8 and 100 verses. His primary story is that
he attacks 12000 Midianites at midnight. He divides his 300 into three 100
groups. Gideon does this, so it appears three armies are coming from three
different directions. They all act perfectly coordinated in absolute harmony
and with the same goal. The angel in Ophra told Gideon you would conquer the
Midian Empire as if but one man. I believe this represents the true nature of
God.
I made Gideon's 1oo verse story into a 364-page novel in five parts. The last
part is David.
A friend and avid reader read my book and asked, " What happens next?
And so, David God's Chosen Crucible. David, unlike Gideon, his story is
voluminous. You can't write David in one book, even at 490 pages. Samuel
couldn't do it, either.
I take David to the height of his reign. He conquered and produced the empire
of Israel. David opened the king's trade highway reaching from the Euphrates to
Egypt. Making Jerusalem the commercial trading center of the entire region.
He marries his soul mate Bathsheba. All his past deeds catch up with him, and
the prophet Nathan tricks David into judging himself, saying death and
repayment of four-fold needs to be offset in the balance. Nathan tells him that
the sword will never leave his house.
That is where Second David Trials and Tribulation is the next bite of that
apple. The last in the empire of Israel series will be Solomon Wine Women and
Song.
All these works and subsequent works are a 101% collaboration with God. God
does 101%, and I do all the rest.
And unless I forget a thousand years hence, the anthropologists will conclude
that as a society, they all communed with an all-knowing Oracle named Google.
