Katherine Appello -- Songwriter, poet, and Lyricist

Describe your style.

I have been told my style is R&B, spiritual. The material I write ranges from Christian to pieces that can be adapted to different styles.

Who or what has been the greatest influence on your style?

I have listened to various types of music throughout my life, including Gregorian chant, so a variety of music has influenced me, not just one particular one. One of my favorite artists is Meatloaf, certain songs in particular, such as Is Nothing Sacred Anymore.

How did you get started in your career?

I started with doing poetry nights at Barnes and Noble, as well as amateur nights where I performed some of my stuff. The response I got was positive but didn't move to try and sell my lyrics or music in a sustained fashion until now.

What struggles or barriers did you face or are you facing to promote yourself and your work?

If you don't have a big budget for recording, promoting, or industry connections, then you have to rely on social media and word of mouth.

What life lessons have you learned, and how have they influenced your style?

Be true to your calling, to what you are inspired to share with the world, and realize that what you put out there will have an impact, so be ethical, and responsible in what you create, and share.

I'd love to see an example of your poems.

This is a poem that I wrote and stemmed from a movie scene I was watching.

Go To Sleep Now Sweet Angel

Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Sweet angel, its time to rest,
Take my hand and find your peace,
Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Let the angels kiss your sweet cheek.
As you close your eyes now, go to sleep sweet angel.
Sweet angel go to sleep.

hmmmmhmmmmhmmm

Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Sweet angel it's time to rest,
As the sun sets down over the horizon.
In the angels of the night find your peace.
Sweet angel, sweet angel, go to sleep now sweet angel.

hmmmmhmmmmhmmm

Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Sweet angel, its time to rest,
Let your weary body give way,
And let the angels sing you a lullaby,
As I walk you to another world.
Take my hand now sweet angel,
As you drift off to sleep.

Go to sleep now sweet angel, sweet angel.
Go to slee eeep
Go to sleep now ooo oooh
oooh oooh

Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Sweet angel, its time to rest,
Take my hand and find your peace,
Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Let the angels kiss your sweet cheek.
As you close your eyes now, go to sleep sweet angel.
Sweet angel go to sleep.
Go to sleep now sweet angel,
Sweet angel, its time to rest.
