UNSPOKEN Paperback – October 24, 2020
by Robina Elolen Ehana (Author)
Everyone has a mask they wear, and everyone has a story to tell. Though some are considerably darker than others. This is displayed perfectly in the tragic, yet inspiring book, “Unspoken.” Author Robina Ehana regales her audience with the shocking and heartbreaking experience that is being violated at a young age by someone very close. She illuminates the often hidden dynamics of a toxic and abusive family unit. And she does so all whilst reminding the reader that the truth is not always what it seems, and that those closest to you can be hiding a dark secret. This book explores the fear that often comes with being assaulted and sexually abused; fears of not being believed, of being stigmatized and ostracized by society. It also shows the incredible journey of moving on from such events, and living life as a survivor. Robina does an immaculate job of describing the façade she wore, the trauma she faced, and the eventual peace she attained. For those looking for a fast-paced and intriguing read that not only tells a story but offers insight on one of the darkest problems facing society, this is the perfect book to dive into.

On the day ‘Unspoken’ came out, I immediately purchased the Kindle version, because I didn’t want to wait for the hardcopy to come in the mail. If not for other commitments, I would have finished it in one sitting. When I finished reading the book, someone asked me how the book was. I honestly didn’t know how to respond to that question, because this is not one of those stories you can review with just one word or sentence, as I found it
hard to put into words my thoughts on the book. It even took me days to put this review together.
This is an unadulterated and raw account of what a young, innocent girl endured. This story demonstrates the depths and the love that God has for each of us, no matter what we have gone through. Our stories, our experiences are all different and no matter how much we try to deny it, we all wear some kind of mask, trying to cover up the wounds and the scars we carry.
I found myself balling my eyes out, as early as the first few pages of the book as, I found myself asking, Why God? How could a little girl endure such pain and suffering? Unspoken is a story of healing, faith, grace, healing, victory/freedom, the unconditional love of God and the Power of forgiveness.
There is so much more that can be said, but I just don’t have the words to express my thoughts because of all that is going on in my heart. Thank you for being bold enough to open up and share your story with the world. Thankyou for taking your time to address an issue that is usually slipped under a rug and for raising awareness in a world that needs to hear this.
