This generation of leaders will undoubtedly be intelligent, compassionate, empathetic, and logical. I fear, however, that they may not have the essential life skills my generation has honed over experience and time. One may argue there is no need for it, thanks to the availability of technology that ranges from toasters and self-driving cars. But I believe this is a very limited outlook because having life skills isn’t about doing things for yourself without external help. It's about building emotional resilience and strength when things are not going your way.

I have mentored and worked with kids from ages 6 to 18 during my time as a coach. It’s a rewarding process, watching them grow and mature under my guidance. Much of what I teach has to do with developing essential life skills, and the methods I will outline in the book are what I have employed in mentoring these kids.

I am also the founder and Executive Director of JLT Fieldhouse, a 501c3 nonprofit youth coaching and mentoring organization, dedicated to “Coaching and Mentoring the Leaders of Tomorrow”. This organization is named in honor of my late father, Sgt. Maj. Joe Lewis Thompson, USMC, who adopted me and his older brother after their mom and Joe were married. The lessons learned from his father is what inspires him to continue by passing it on to the next generation of leaders.
Coach T’s Corner®, is an online mentoring academy I founded when the COVID pandemic shut down the JLT Fieldhouse programming. It is designed to “Educate, Support and Inspire” our future leaders of tomorrow and to better prepare them to take ownership of the tools for a prosperous future. Many young people are missing key interpersonal skills that are preventing them from the success they deserve, want and desire. His passion, mission and purpose in life is to provide the necessary guidance, leadership, and direction to middle and high school students.
My philosophy is a discipline and an approach of 3 things that create the S.E.A. of Success®, the simplicity, effort and attitude of success. These 3 philosophies can be applied to every facet of life, and they can aid children in their time as students and as adults. That said, it’s not as simple as telling them these are the rules to live by and expecting change to happen overnight. There is a process… a system… that we as adults must practice to encourage good behavior.
My life's mission is to do what I can, and in as many ways as I can to empower the next generation of leaders.
