Era’Nay, born Eryn Williams, grew up as the daughter of prominent preachers who supported her musical talent from a young age.  Though her strong religious upbringing led her to become a preacher at age 16, her passion for music became undeniable as she entered her 20s.  She made the difficult decision to put preaching on hold in pursuit of a career as an artist, and by age 21, Era’Nay began working with Carter Music Group.  She continues to have a strong relationship with God, and her values shape the foundation for every song that she writes.  Since she began her career with Carter Music Group and producer Darrin Lee, Era’Nay has written and released several singles (No More, Chances, Lessons), including her latest song, Farewell.

Era’Nay, is an emerging young singer-songwriter with a sultry voice and an old soul. The Louisville, Kentucky native has the sound of singers twice her age. Her latest release, Elevate, is a 6 track EP that will leave your ears and heart in awe.

Her vocal stylings channel female R&B powerhouse vocalists like Toni Braxton and Patti Labelle, Era’Nay’s songs preserve a classic sound while adding a fresh vulnerability that is reminiscent of artists like H.E.R. She writes candidly about love and loss, questioning every thought and belief, in order to open the window for her most authentic self to shine through.

She has released several tracks with Carter’s Music Group, and her latest single, Farewell, is a stripped down ballad that speaks to the grief so many of us are experiencing every year. Throughout the song, Era’Nay’s emotive and soulful vocals reflect on the loss of a loved one; as she wonders if the words “I love you” were spoken often enough.

"I said I know that you love me, and I love you just as much..."

INTERVIEW WITH DR. MEL

Describe your style.

My music is classic to traditional to modern mixed together for a combination for timeless music. I am a sultry singer-songwriter with an old soul channeling female powerhouses like Toni Braxton, Patti Labelle adding a fresh vulnerability that is reminiscent of modern artists like H.E.R, Jazmine Sullivan. I love to write candidly about love and loss, questioning every thought and belief, to open the window for my most authentic self to shine through.

Through my music she encourages “Girl Power”, especially a woman’s self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.

Who or what has been your greatest influence on your style?

Whitney Houston has had a lifelong influence over my music with H.E.R adding influence since I began my young adult life. My family and religion has been an influence since 4 years old when I began singing. Being a daughter, granddaughter, and a niece of Pastors is why I lean towards classic songs especially ballads. My producer Darrin Lee Jr brings a lot out of me and enhances my music with his support and guidance.

How did you get started in your career?

I have always wanted to sing and admire the life of being a positive uplifting influence in people's lives. I chose to not sing secular music due to my upbringing and devotion to learning the offices of the church along with respecting traditional approaches to religion. I met my producer Darrin Lee Jr through a mutual friend and sent him a video of me singing; he flipped out in awe and excitement. Together we began his dream of Carter's Music Group a company for affiliated independent artists. January 2020.

What struggles or barriers did you face or are you facing to promote yourself and your work?

I have struggled with my "Free Will" choices seeming to be in contradiction to my faith with me singing secular music. While dealing with this daily so it wont become a barrier I have developed tougher skin and a stronger relationship with my forever friend (Jesus).

What life lessons have you learned and how have they influenced your style?

Definitely listen to my song "Lesson" from my available now on all platforms EP Album - Elevate! Through lessons in life and reaction to my music from supporters, I learned that my music isn't about my life but the lives of my fans. I have battled with and overcame so much in my short time so far and through that my Passion & Soul is about women's empowerment.
