After the crushing and confusing divorce of his parents, an eleven-year-old boy is sexually abused by someone he looks up to and believes he can trust. Conflicted by what has happened to him, yet not knowing where to turn or who to talk to, he searches for human connection as he attempts to navigate his teenage years only to find himself becoming more closed-off and wary of those around him. After falling in love, only to have the surprise commandeering of his newborn daughter, he finds himself tangled in a web of pharmaceutical and illegal drugs as he attempts to synthetically escape his painful past.
As the claws of addiction sink further into the boy, he falls into a reclusive spiral of homelessness, debt, and despair as he struggles through the unpredictable turbulent waters of addiction. After attending two stints at nationally recognized drug rehabilitation centers, being told his addiction is a disease in which he is powerless to overcome, the boy digs deep in searching for ways to put his past behind him. Whether living out of his car during harsh elevated winters, having only enough money for a one-way bus ticket after getting kicked out of rehab for what he believed to be an injustice, or sleeping under a bridge while looking for ways to eat; the boy struggles to find the sense of joy he once had as a child exploring the vast open fields behind his childhood home.
Homeless, friendless, and broken, he searches deep within himself to break free from the shackles of heroin addiction which consumes him in order to reclaim the life he had always yearned for as a young boy.

This work details my reclusive struggle through despair, homelessness, and heroin addiction in the hope that it will show others that there is a way out. It has been a difficult project to complete--rehashing the darkest moments in my life hasn't been easy. Those who know me understand how difficult it is for me to be vulnerable; however, my hope is that my story will shed much-needed light on the topic that continues to plague and wreak havoc on millions worldwide.
My issues are not unique. The despair of addiction has affected and continues to affect millions including that of husbands, wives, sons, daughters, and families around the world. This work stands to show them there can be a way out. It is a story of sheer hopelessness, personal loss, despair, and trial. It is also a story of trust, faith, and hope.
