to parents raising a child with autism, and a neurotypical developing sibling
Lakewood, CO – USA – January 15,
2020 - Amanda Irtz is an
assistant principal of a middle school, a single mom of two kiddos, passionate
about advocacy for autism, and creating a more empathic approach to
understanding. Her son is on the autism spectrum and is smart, sensitive and
loving. Her daughter is neurotypical, and Irtz has watched her show more
empathy in her young six years than she did before the age of thirty. Irtz’s
desire to help her son and other parents of autistic children lead her to
create her blog https://www.autismaptitude.com. Irtz
says, “My readers encouraged me to move the posts into a book. I've added a lot
of stories that are not on my blog. My purpose was to share my understanding of
my journey as a mother of a child with special needs.”
According to Irtz, The Clouds That Chase Us , which released as the #1 New Release on Amazon and is independently published by the author, is about unconditional love and her journey with her son and daughter. It is also about bringing more humanity and beauty to autism spectrum disorder. “To gain perspective and to feel more connected to a community that often feels scary. There is nothing to be afraid of; rather, it is our society that needs a better understanding,” Irtz told Dr. Melissa Caudle, author and blogger. “I'm not here to complain or to vent. I'm here to move people forward in life and to provide inspiration on their journeys. I'm here to change the way autism spectrum disorder is viewed.”
REVIEW
“Amanda
Irtz gives us a myriad of experiences that offers hope, advice, and strategies
to parents raising a child with autism, and a neurotypical developing sibling.
As a mother of a son with autism, parent advocate and a professional in the
community, The Clouds That Chase Us gave a warm
feeling and a deepened connection to Amanda and her Buddy, as we have similar
shared experiences. This book is a phenomenal resource for caregivers,
supporters and service providers in reinforcing that we are not alone in this
journey." Dr. Alisha "Ali" Griffith, Autism Parenting
