Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you and what inspired you to author this book?

I grew up in England but settled in Ireland after travelling widely. I have always struggled with bipolar disorder, and I love horror. Somehow the two combined, and over the years, I wrote many dark tales in various forms. This ‘journal therapy’ effectively relieved the symptoms and calmed my moods.

I started writing in infant school and continued through university and through having a family. My first non-fiction piece, a study of Montague Summers and his research into vampire lore, was published when I was thirteen.

I did not share my short stories and poetry until 2015 because of the dark content. After the poetry marathon of that year, I started getting offers and acceptances for publication. Initially, I focused on the bipolar poetry to support others. My long-term intention, however, was to work solely in horror and the related genres.

Last year I focused all of my energies into the genre and produced a number of chapbooks and short story collections. Fortunately, I received excellent reviews, and my books went on to become Amazon and UK Chapbook chart best sellers. Ultimate Horrotica contains the complete collection of short stories and poetry. Some of the content has been branded ‘extreme’ by online journals.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

I wanted to keep the cover simple and offer one image that would have an impact and convey genre and content. The blood on the hands seemed perfect, especially with the red set against a black background. Very demonic!

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

My earliest horror read was Bram Stoker’s Dracula. However, I am a huge fan of Poe, Hoffman, and Rice. I have a guilty secret, and that is I read a lot of horror fan fiction. My influences go way beyond the written word as I am a great fan of horror movies and my influences from an early age have included Raimi (Evil Dead), Romero (Night of the Living Dead), Carpenter (The Thing and Halloween), Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream) and Cunningham (Friday the 13th). I even have Jason Voorhees tattooed on my right arm.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

I write because I hear and feel the stories with such an intensity that it keeps me awake at night. Insomnia is a bit of a problem but working within the genre is extremely fulfilling. If I am working long hours I do take a break and practice my horror art which I share on Instagram and other social media channels. My drawing isn’t fantastic but it’s very enjoyable.

Ultimate Horrotica is the complete collection of the Horrotica series to date. The stories span the genre and it’s sub-genres with occasionally erotic aspects. It is a bumper book of over 550 pages and perfect to read over time. The stories include; psychological horror, homages to horror heroes, erotic horror, vampires, werewolves, human suffering, social horror, time travel and illness. It’s release paves the way for the Horrotica novels. The first Ad Sex Specula will hopefully be released by 2021.

Ultimate Horrotica does have some extreme and graphic content and is a true ode to the horror world. Various poetic tales and short stories have been published by journals and magazines. This year I also modelled for Tiger Shark Horror Magazine.

Who is your target audience, and why?

Horror fans of course! I tend to mix with horror fans on social media, I collect horror, I read horror, I draw horror, I create horror photography (attached), role play horror, watch horror and study the genre. I think you get the gist!

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My children, all of whom have had their own writing and art published. We have shared travel and other extreme sport experiences and we all have our own interests. Some of my children also love modelling for my photography.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

A lifetime of knowledge, practice and interest as well as study. My Master’s degree culminated in a dissertation on Alien 3 which went on to be published by a news channel and is now available on Amazon. I have also submitted the proposal for a non-fiction analysis of the horror movie from a structuralist approach. So there are many works in the pipeline... five by five!
