CHICAGO, IL – USA – July 14, 2020 -
When former attorney Jim Bollenbacher retired, he became a first responder paramedic
for Music Festivals. Having grown up in Western Pennsylvania, Bollenbacher
dreamed of becoming an FBI agent. His dream soon flattened, and he went to law
school. After that, he entered the world of music, this time as a first
responder at large music festivals. His journey led him to author, “Molly, Mushrooms, &
Mayhem,” now available on Amazon. It is a book that reflects
on what it is like to work in a medical tent at music festivals. The book is
listed as the #1 New Release on Amazon in the Emergency Medical Service
category. Bollenbacher says, “I noticed the reaction I received when I talked
about my experiences in the medical music tent during festivals. When others
heard my stories, I realized that they were not only interested in the stories,
but also fascinated by the craziness and encouraged me to write about them.
That’s how my book was born.”
“Molly, Mushrooms
& Mayhem,” is a compilation of stories about experiences that my
colleagues and I have had taking care of patients at music festivals. They are loosely
organized into topical chapters and connected by some medical or music festival
“factoids.” Bollenbacher says,
“Those factoids are things that I learned as a paramedic that the general
public might not know. I also use some of the stories to tell of my transition
from a pretty conservative button downed lawyer and business executive to a
fun-loving, more relaxed festival medic.”
The
book is mostly lighthearted, intended to entertain readers who may not have
been aware of this side of music festivals. Readers will laugh, cringe, and
maybe even gasp as they learn of some of the situations in which we find
ourselves as we respond to calls for assistance. The book is also in the top
100 books in two categories on Amazon.
Bollenbacher is donating all proceeds from the sale of
his book to the First Responders Children’s Foundation. First Responders Children’s Foundation provides financial
support to both children who have lost a parent in the line of duty as well as
families enduring significant financial hardships due to tragic
circumstances. First Responders Children’s Foundation also
supports, promotes, and facilitates educational activities and programs created
and operated by law enforcement and firefighting organizations whose purpose is
to benefit children or the community at large.
