Into The Garden: Lessons on a Spiritual Journey – June 12, 2020

All of us at one time or another will struggle in our lives, there is no escaping it. "Into the Garden" lessons on a spiritual journey, offers beautiful essays of hope, courage, imagination, joy, forgiveness, and more. Each essay speaks to us just as God speaks to us, through scripture, storytelling, and wisdom, and offers something for everyone seeking to deepen their connection with God. Having struggled through a difficult childhood, the author, Cathy Gregory found that she felt closest to God when working in her garden. While digging, planting, and weeding tirelessly in the hot Texas sun, she began asking God questions about her life, and He began to answer. Each lesson stands on it's own and can be read as a devotional or spiritual study. If you like devotionals such as "God Calling" edited by A.J. Russell or books such as "A Year of Biblical Womanhood" by Rachel Held Evans or "Gift of the Red Bird" by Paula D'arcy you will love this book. "Into the Garden" opens a window and allows us to see our earthly struggles through the light of God's love. It is a must read for every Christian or persons on a spiritual quest.

REVIEWS

Life is a journey of different times and experiences. Beautifully crafted, "Into the Garden" describes Cathy's garden and ultimately points us to the first Garden of Eden. The garden is a place where our weary souls find solace in God and where many life's valuable lessons can be learned. God-inspired, Cathy honestly shared the reflections of her spiritual walk with God in many short "lessons". They are both inspiring and encouraging. "Into the Garden" invites you to examine yourself in your own spiritual walk. Yes, life can be messy, but God is always there giving you gems and nuggets to guide you along. This book refreshes your spirit especially during this pandemic season when everyone is feeling "stuck".

The author shares her life experiences (both good and bad) and chronicles her spiritual journey as she navigates through these experiences. She uses her love of nature and gardening as metaphors of lessons learned along her journey. I especially enjoyed the use of scripture used throughout the book to accentuate God's word and presence in all situations.

Great book where the chapters are just a couple of pages. Many insightful metaphors, analogies, visualizations using the scriptures. I am a devout Christian and have found a lot of wisdom in Cathy's words. If you love the Bible you will love her insights. If you need live application of scriptures in your life, you will have a good dose of it in this book. There are lots of clever passages to clarify spiritual knowledge. One can use it as a devotional book for inspiration and meditation on a daily basis. I highly recommend it!

Into The Garden has quickly become one of my favorite go-to books for meditation and inspiration. Cathy’s down to earth, easy to read and very authentic stories with beautiful scriptural references woven in at just the right points has been both inspiring and soothing, particularly at this point in time. This is a book that I’ll reread many times and give copies to friends as a gift. Truly a beautiful and uplifting book.
