Feeling Gratitude for Your Career on a Daily Basis

Last week I introduced you to a guest blogger and today she continues her five-part special postings. Please welcome Rachel Withers, author of FITpreneur.

Everyone has days where work is stressful, and we feel that we’re not doing anything right. These are the perfect moments to take a step back and think about what we’re grateful for.

What we achieve isn’t by accident; it is by repetition. If we focus on gratitude and positivity, it will grow and become a habit. Gratitude increases happiness, and there is a large body of research that indicates the correlation between happiness and success. To help your business and overall wellness thrive, there are things you should be grateful for each day.

Be Grateful for Those Around You

In our careers, we all need a support system. These could be co-workers, clients, or even the nanny who watches your children so you can focus on your work knowing your children are safe. Instead of feeling shame that you can’t do everything independently, shift your thinking and be grateful that there are people in your life who love you and want to help you succeed. Always have gratitude for the people who have chosen to be in your corner.

Be Grateful for Progress, No Matter How Slow

Acknowledging work progress is similar to acknowledging progress in weight loss. It’s a journey. Some days will be better and more productive than others. You’ll encounter periods where you feel as though progress has halted and you’ve reached a plateau. The key is to power through and continue feeling proud of the small goals you accomplish, because those little victories are putting you one step closer to reaching bigger goals.

In fact, we should all learn to be thankful for stagnation. How boring would it be if we had no problem succeeding immediately in life? Trying harder makes victory more sweet. And if you feel discouraged, remember where you started at the very beginning and it will be easier to appreciate how far you’ve come. That brings me to my next and final point…

Be Grateful for Yourself

When we think of gratitude, most people focus on being grateful for external people and circumstances. We should also be habitually grateful for ourselves and the work we do. You’re taking the initiative to pursue a career you love, and you’re working through challenges as they arise.

Gratitude is simple, yet complex at the same time. The first step is feeling gratitude, but the second step is showing it. And finally, there’s accepting that people show their gratitude in different ways.
