I grew up in Yorkshire and spent my childhood with my twin sister climbing trees, horse riding, and being outside exploring the countryside. I come from a close family, and we’d enjoy Sunday dinners, seeing grandparents, and celebrating any family occasion whenever we could.
After my career as a dancer, I returned to where I grew up, to be close to family. I spend my free time out walking my dogs, enjoying the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, I just don’t climb the trees now.
What inspired you to write Become a FITpreneur?
My children inspired me to write Fitpreneur as I wanted my children to see the importance of unlocking their potential and living their dreams. While I was building my fitness business BalletBeFit, I recognised the importance of mindset and certain strategies to build a sustainable and profitable business. For me, everything starts with a dream, an idea, and the truest thing about us as human beings is our dreams. I wanted to share my knowledge, my experience to those fitness entrepreneurs who have a passion, a dream of having their own fitness business as I truly believe you are more likely to be successful if you live out your passion and do what you love.
Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?
The book cover is a photo of me; I wanted the reader to know who had written the book.
Who has been the biggest influence on you personally and as a writer?
My biggest influences personally have been my mentors Pat Mesiti and Bob Proctor they have taught me you can do anything if you have the vision and self-belief.
What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?
I have a tendancy to keep things in my head, so it was getting the book into a structure that I thought would best serve the reader.
Who is your target audience, and why?
My target audience is for anyone who has the dream, the passion to be part of the fitness industry, who wants financial freedom, and wants to make a valuable contribution to other peoples lives, whether that’s through holding fitness/exercises classes, 1-1 coaching sessions, bootcamps, retreats to owning their own studio or gym.
If you were going to give one reason for anyone looking at your book to read, why should they buy it?
Because as the cliché says’ life is too short’ You don’t know what tomorrow brings or where you’ll end up so why waste your time on a career which doesn’t make you happy. It’s important to do something in life which you feel is meaningful, and fulfills you.
What do you consider your greatest success in life?
My two beautiful children who are following their dreams, they have self-belief, and for me, if I’ve helped them understand that they have the power to shape their lives, then this is the most significant success I’ll ever have.
Everyone has life lessons to learn, tell your readers one or two of yours, and how they make you the person you are today.
My life as a dancer was a very exacting and challenging career, and if you think about it even though we say it’s a short career, if you consider a dancer starts early in life around four, five years old, it’s actually a long span of time. As a young dancer at the most formative period of my life, when your subconscious is recording your experiences and forming your world view, and of yourself, we were all too often compared to one another, made to feel not good enough, and given a distorted view and idea of what perfection stood for. This had a powerful, but a negative impact on me, childhood is where it all starts, so in actual fact, I went through my career right from early childhood, not feeling good enough, comparing myself, in the hope that I’d feel worthy. I was basing my whole self-worth on external accomplishments, feeling like I had something to prove all the time. When I left the dance world, I didn’t know who I was; my identity was so very tied to my career as a dancer. It was only when I had my children I realised that I didn’t want them to live a life not being true to who they are, looking to other people to give them worth, relying on other’s opinions to provide them with a sense of value. We are all individuals, and individuality is so important, so let your inner light shine brightly, nurture it, and care for it, follow your dreams, and when you take care of your inner light, you permit others to do the same. The world needs us all to shine and be true to ourselves.
What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
Mostly when it comes to health and fitness, we talk about making changes to the external, our physical appearance, when in actual fact, we need to make the change from the inside, and then the external changes will follow. This is the approach I have when helping people, whether that’s getting in shape to having the courage and self-belief to build and have their own business. It’s all about our mindset.
