My mind still drifts back to this novel whenever I feel lonely and about to give up. Many are the times in life that we get troubled because of a lack of attention from our parents as they are supposed to be our guides and very close friends in life. “They Don't Hear Her Cries” by Alethea Gibbs is one of a kind.
When I read the summary, I knew this was a must-read, so I was ready to set my other books aside and dive in. After reading the first chapter, I felt so absorbed I couldn't put it down! I loved it. Books like this are definitely my cup of tea from now on.
The author narrates a story about a troubled woman called Zenobia Jordan, and her life has been faced with real struggles of lack of fatherly support, making a lousy decision and heartbroken, at times feeling like death is the only option. The life of Zenobia is undoubtedly an inspiration and a life-changer, the challenges and difficulties she goes through, is enough to make one feel motivated again in their struggles and face life with more courage and focus on their true potential. The author has shown masterly skills in writing by having complete control of her story and style. Readers are profoundly engaged with realistic conversations and an exceedingly impressive flow of the story, not forgetting the impeccable and easy to understand grammar. I highly recommend it mostly to the young generation and any other troubled person, as it will help to get back the broken pieces and make you understand the point at which professional help and self-love are vital to saving your life.
If this is the author's debut book, I can’t wait to get my hands on her next release!

I just started reading the book, yet I felt inspired to leave a review right away. Inspired by the beautiful almost lyrical wordsmithing and painted images her words create in my mind. The writing is raw, fresh and so alive. With each line, I feel urged, yes compelled, to read more and more. To learn more of Zenobia's story and what is to become of her and the so-called man who calls himself her father. James...James...I'm conflicted because it's the same name as my long-deceased grandfather. It seems to be too good of a name for this character that abandoned his child to broken promises and excuses. He carries none of the distinction or strength of James Jones... Yet I have to tell myself that my ire has prejudged too much. Sit back little sister I say and dig back into this rich story. Maybe I am being too harsh on him, maybe he will make amends to his child.
What a beautiful gift it is and how inspiring. I would look to follow in her footsteps.

‘They Don’t Hear Her Cries’ by Alethea Gibbs is a very compelling story of a fatherless girl who yearns for his love but is let down every single time. Zenobia is a fierce girl and even without much support or appreciation from her family, she makes her way through a truly difficult life. Her struggles will make you feel her pain and you will realize that the motivation behind her decisions was one - survival. She finds solace from her journals and poems and eventually relieves herself from past grudges only to look forward towards a brighter future. Zenobia’s story is bound to touch your heart.
The author is a lovely story-teller and has woven the plot with a generous doze of twists, surprises, emotions and drama. Her narration is very interesting, fresh and effortless. This novel is paced very well and I found myself engrossed in the story from the very beginning. As each chapter ended, I wanted to swiftly move to the next to know what lies ahead. The characters are so raw and distinct from one another, giving each their own personality and a reflection of their individual journeys. Even though Zenobia is flawed, I kept rooting for her, I wanted her to survive, to win. The hood life has been captured skillfully in this book. I loved the depth of this story and it is beautifully portrayed in the poems as well. This book is a reminder that even when things go wrong, perseverance is key and giving up should not be an option. It is a very motivational read and I highly recommend it.

This is a story about a young lady Zenobia who got dealt with the wrong hand. She's trying to survive being fatherless, poor, and a statistic. Her mother doesn't want her to follow in her footsteps. This is a great book. I really enjoyed the growth of the main character. I can relate to all the characters in the book. I love the poems at the end of each chapter. Some of these poems resonated with me. I think the significance of the pictures of the lightning in front of each chapter represents being in the storm of life. The book's black and white cover is amazing. A good representation of the main character Zee. To the author, I believe in you and it was a great story. I can’t wait to read your next release. I recommend this book to everyone, especially teens. I give this book five stars.

I really enjoyed ,”They Don’t Hear Her Cries”. It’s a great book and leaves you craving for more details with each chapter. The author developed an excellent story line based on every day encounters that some children experience and how they carry the pain, disappointments into their adulthood. She spoke candidly about craving a relationship with her absent father, (James), lack of trust, depression, abuse, and dealing with the cards that life gave her. During set backs her one true goal was, “ Survival no matter what she needed to do”!
I love how Zenobia realizes once she reaches a point in her life that involves suicidal ideations that she needs help via a psychiatrist. With the help of counseling she is able to analyze her life, cope constructively and heal.

This book is full of heartbreaking circumstances that too many young girls and boys find themselves in. No guidance, no real support and alone. This read just may be the thing that resonates and encourages young people to make different choices in life so they don’t have to live thru so much pain.
